Introducing Today's Feelings: Building Emotional Wellness Into Daily Life

Just like how we teach our kids to brush their teeth for physical health, emotional wellness deserves the same daily attention. Children naturally experience a wide range of feelings throughout their day, but they don't always have the tools — or the moment — to pause and reflect on what they're experiencing.

What if emotional check-ins could become as natural and routine as any other healthy habit? What if kids could build the vocabulary and self-awareness to understand their inner world, one day at a time?

That's exactly why we created Today's Feelings — a new feature designed to weave emotional check-ins seamlessly into your family's daily rhythm, helping them develop the lifelong skill of emotional awareness.

Today's Feelings is an optional step you can add to your child's routines that gives them a simple way to reflect on and share how they're feeling each day. Kids can select from emoji-like icons (like 🙄 Frustrated or 😊 Happy) right on your Hearth Display or in the app, making emotional awareness a natural part of their day.

But this isn't just about tracking moods. It's about giving families the tools they need to build an emotional vocabulary, create consistent touch points for connection, and turn "How are you feeling?" from a conversation starter that falls flat into genuine understanding.

How it works

Today's Feelings is built into Hearth's Routines feature, making it easy for families to incorporate emotional check-ins into daily life. Whether it's part of a morning routine or when your family is winding down for the night, you can choose when and how check-ins appear — so they feel natural, not forced.

Families can select which feelings their kids choose from and how often the check-in shows up, helping them create a rhythm that works for everyone. It's flexible, intuitive, and designed to grow with your family.

Why families love it

1. It normalizes talking about feelings: With 16 predefined feelings to choose from, kids learn that all emotions — from confident to embarrassed — are important and worth acknowledging.

2. It provides a window into their world: Get snapshots of your kid’s daily emotional life with Hearth’s Feelings Report so you can make informed decisions about when to step in, when to celebrate, and how to support their unique emotional needs.

3. It supports emotional intelligence: When families make emotional check-ins part of their daily rhythm, everyone gets better at putting feelings into words — creating a foundation for deeper, more honest conversations.

The beauty of Today's Feelings lies in its simplicity. Instead of forcing deep conversations when emotions are running high, it creates small, consistent opportunities for kids to check in with themselves. Over time, these moments add up — building emotional awareness, creating patterns you can recognize, and opening doors to the kinds of conversations that strengthen families.

When your child selects "worried" three days in a row, you'll notice. When they choose "excited" every Tuesday, you might discover it's because of art class. These insights become launching pads for real connection, helping you understand not just how your child is feeling, but why.
